This weeks I came across an article that actually made me really frustrated in a way. This article was titled “Arizona lawmaker: Let’s end compulsory schooling and stop forcing education ‘down everybody’s throat’” by Racheal Strauss. Even Strauss agrees that this idea is crazy. She states that “A legislator in Arizona has said that there should be no compulsory education, and he wants to repeal a state law that mandates that young people attend school”(Strauss 1). This is so crazy considering that in this time age no one can get any good paying job without at least a high school diploma. Never mind not eve graduation middle school. I guess I understand the whole college isn’t for everyone type deal, but not grading high school is a needed thing. High school allows a student to have the basic information to withhold any basic job. I do think it should be up to student whether or not they choice to go to college. That I agree on for the reason that not everyone is mature enough after high school to move on to higher education. His reason for this crazy idea is “the kids who don’t want to be there are a larger distraction to the kids who do want to be there”(Strauss 1). Although maybe these kids are not paying attention for the reason that they are too confused to focus. A child that is confused should have more help, not be pushed to the curb. Not everyones families at home support education, so what is thats the reason they are acting out? Shouldn’t we show them what education can offer in a positive way and not negatively? I do no agree with this act in the slightest. I think everyone needs to graduate at least high school without debate.
