Blog post Week of March 10th

Today an article that interested me raised from a previous issue I have talked about before in my weekly blog post. The issue of Trump taking away the rights of gender neutral bathrooms. I came across an opinion article ” Transgender teen’s road to the supreme court detours, but his story is not over” by Moriah Balingit. She tells this story of a young boy who has been fighting to have a bathroom in his school that he feels comfortable to use without judgement. He was issued a court date with the supreme court that has now been dismissed due to “The decision came after the Trump administration rescinded an Obama-era directive for public schools to allow transgender students to use bathrooms of the gender they identify with, regardless of what is on their birth certificates” (Balingit 1). This was disappointing to Grimm as he pleaded “I am just a human. I am just a boy. Please consider my rights when you make your decision, I don’t want to be a trailblazer, but here I am in this position”(Balingit 2). Why can’t this just be done, so Grimm and other transgender students feel comfortable. Who is it effecting other than judge mental people that could just be looking at the cost of making these separate bathrooms? Although instead of having to spend money on other things that could be cutting we decide to cut something that is potential causing harm. Even Eliza Byard the executive director of the national Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network recognizes  “It is a missed opportunity to have his rights vindicated at the highest level”(Balingit 2). Although things seems to not be working out in the scheme of things now all we can do it be hopeful that between DeVos and Trump they realize the negative effect it can have on a student development. I hope t hear more in the next coming weeks about new acts that are being changed to our education system to hopefully better it. Unlike this weeks main focus was on women’s right and for transgender rights.
