Blog week of Feb. 17th

This issue I am going to follow for the semester is on issues on education brought by education department. As a student I find keeping myself involved with the issues being discussed about my education system is very important. This week there was an article that really influenced me to choice issues regarding education which was “Influential Conservation group: Trump, DeVos should dismantle Education Department and bring god into classroom” by Emma Brown on February 16th. This article was a little bit opinionated, but it did have actual points on what is being said by our education department. Brown states that ” The five page document produced by the Council for National Policy calls for a ‘restoration of education in America'”(1). When I first read that sentence I was concerned as a student. Yes, I don’t fully agree with our education currently,  but FIVE PAGES of changes is a bit soon considering DeVos was but into office last week. Not only that, but the main thing they are focusing on is adding religion into the school systems. I am religious but I do believe there is a time and place for that. If you are religious you go to sunday school not have the valuable time of learning math, english, science, and so on taken away by religion that not everyone understands. Between the two government figures they believe this religion based education will help sculpt children for the better. How can we trust that she is doing it for the best when she herself went to a christian school and worships god on the daily When she herself said to the public My faith is very important to me and informs my work. In education, it teaches me that every child is special and deserves the best we can offer them”(Brown 2). I am curious in how this specific issue that was reported about the most this week turns out. There were other issues talked about but this concept of adding religion was the one elaborated on the most. During this report it also talked about the council’s education reform report that was taken down after the Washington Post reported on it. I am interested to see how that authentic that report posted was and look out for any reports on that reform report. I will be following the reports throughout the week on the education issues that are now being talked about to the public.
